City Of Helsingborg and Lund University Enter into Strategic Partnership

The City of Helsingborg and Lund University, initiators of the Helsingborg Innovation District, are signing a new strategic partnership that further strengthens their collaboration. The agreement marks an important milestone in a joint effort to promote education, research, innovation, and growth.

Lund University has been operating in Helsingborg since the 1990s. At the turn of the millennium, the decision was taken to establish a campus in Helsingborg, which today is home to around 4000 students. The new cooperation agreement shows the way to development in several areas over the next five years.

“We have a shared ambition to grow education and cutting-edge research at Campus Helsingborg. The agreement will positively impact Helsingborg’s residents and business community. It will also strengthen Helsingborg’s position as an attractive student city and promote an open environment for research and development,” says Christian Orsing, Chairman of the Helsingborg City Council. “High-quality research investments and education are crucial for Sweden’s prosperity and continued innovation and competitiveness. By developing stronger ties between business, society and academia, we can jointly create solutions to various societal challenges.”

“We are celebrating 25 years of collaboration and this quarter century has seen development and new opportunities for both parties, not least in terms of campus development and sustainability. We are now stepping up our innovative work in world-leading research and education in close collaboration with business and society,” says Erik Renström, Vice-Chancellor of Lund University.

Lund University conducts world-leading research in several areas. It climbs the world rankings every year and is consistently placed in the top 100. In the field of sustainability, Lund University is third globally.

One of the City of Helsingborg’s focus areas is climate neutrality by 2030. To achieve this, everyone who lives and works in the city must help in the transition and find new solutions together. Another initiative is Helsingborg’s Innovation District, of which the city is one of the initiators with Lund University. The district brings together several actors to enable work on innovation, cross-sectoral collaboration and sustainable growth.

“Lund University has recently made several significant investments at Campus Helsingborg to establish new research and education environments, also to promote collaboration with external organisations and business. With the new agreement in place, we get even more power and direction in the joint work that we have had with the City of Helsingborg for many years,” says Charlotta Johnsson, Vice-Chancellor of Campus Helsingborg, Lund University.

The focus of the strategic partnership lies in five areas of progress:

  1. Increase interdisciplinary and high-quality education and research at Campus Helsingborg
  2. Strengthening work in pioneering and innovation
  3. Develop the student city of Helsingborg.
  4. Strengthen collaboration between business, society and academia
  5. Develop local and global attractiveness and visibility.
