Event details

The tech industry has shifted from high demand to a more cautious market, while recent graduates and junior talent are struggling to enter the workforce. Companies are primarily seeking senior expertise, while education providers are seeing fewer internship and work-based learning opportunities. This risks future tech talent leaving the industry before the economic climate improves.

We are bringing together businesses and the public sector to discuss current skills challenges: AI and rapidly changing skills needs, knowledge gaps as experienced specialists retire, and how we can create more pathways for junior talent to gain valuable experience. The aim of the dialogue is to create the conditions for launching concrete collaborative initiatives and pilot projects that can be tested locally, helping to secure long-term expertise in digitalisation, AI and cybersecurity.

During the dialogue, we will discuss

1. What are your most critical skills needs and business development priorities over the next 6–12 months, and how do you expect AI to change roles, ways of working and skills requirements?

2. How can we work together to reduce skills gaps as senior specialists retire? What models for knowledge transfer and mentoring could work in practice?

3. How can we create more realistic pathways into the industry for junior talent, and what would it take for more employers to feel confident hiring despite budget constraints and delivery requirements?

4. What will be the short- and long-term consequences if we do not develop a sustainable, long-term solution?
